Killmeyer's Old Bavarian Inn

STATEN ISLAND. On Staten Island and in the mood for some good, old-fashioned German cooking? Killmeyer's has just what you need. At the corner of Arthur Kill and Sharrotts Roads, this one-time inn looks to have changed very little since first opening around 1890, boasting an original mahogany bar, period furnishing, a beautiful frieze and a unique wrought-iron Spaten sign. The menu features several authentic German dishes, including such specialities as veal shanks and saurbraten. Of course, here, beer is "kaiser," and the mini-kegs of Kostritzer, Schwarzbier or any of the inn's on-tap Weiss beers are favorites. Dinner reservations suggested. To get to Killmyers's, take the Staten Island Ferry then Bus S74 to Sharrotts Road.
